GHIT R&D Forum 2024 Highlights: Innovation Through Collaboration
The GHIT R&D Forum reconvened in person for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic on December 5, 2024, bringing together over 120 participants from diverse stakeholders, including private sector, academia, research institutions, and NGOs/NPOs to advance global health R&D collaboration worldwide.
Held in Japan, a hub for global health R&D, the Forum connected experts to strengthen existing and build new collaborations in global health product development. Speakers shared valuable insights on local healthcare needs, emerging technologies, and product development, aligning with the GHIT Fund's strategic vision for strengthening global health innovation.
Key sessions explored innovations across major global health challenges - from TB and malaria to neglected tropical diseases - focusing on developing, adapting, and delivering new technologies and treatments while considering regional variations and health system integration in low- and middle-income countries.
With an explicit goal of fostering unique networking opportunities, the Forum facilitated cross-sector and cross border connections aimed to spark collaborations that could lead to breakthrough advances in global health R&D.
This gathering reinforced GHIT Fund's decade-long mission of building bridges between Japanese and global partners in health R&D, emphasizing that creative partnerships across borders and sectors are essential for addressing global infectious diseases.
